Project Management Software To Refit Your Boat

Keeping track of and prioritizing the projects on the Pomaika’i is almost a full-time job. To manage this and keep me on track I’d initially planned on using index cards to track projects and costs. But this quickly became unmanageable. I do a lot of my brainstorming while I’m at my day job and wouldn’t have the index cards with me when I needed them. Also with the many changes of direction in the “game plan” as I learn more and adjust priorities it became a pain to redo cards all the time.

My search for a solution led me to a service called Padlet (www.padlet.com). This app gives you a whiteboard type platform. You then build sticky notes for your tasks which can then be arranged as you want them. The bonus is that I can create spreadsheets for a mini-budget of my projects which you attach to the sticky note. I can also “connect” sticky notes which allows me to connect related tasks into groups.

There is an app for your phone/tablet, which allows me to jot down tasks when I’m out and about.

My budgets are guidelines to give me an idea of the costs to accomplish each item, more to plan out what I do that month. I didn’t count for every screw or roll of tape needed to do each task. I’ve been saving money by buying things in bulk (if I need a paint brush I go onto Amazon and buy a dozen or two at a time) which makes it difficult to assign such detailed costs to each project, and this isn’t a business, so I don’t need that level detail.

Here’s the current Project Board (and it’s live so will show my current project ideas). I’ll have the priority items done by the end of 2018 (at least moneywise, we’ll see where we are with time management as I only get a solid two days a week to work on the boat). Here’s a direct link
