Living Aboard A Sailboat
Electrical Tool Box

Electrical Tool Box Setup

Recently I added some solar panels to keep my fridge going without having to run my generator. I didn’t take good care of the batteries that I have now (I was between generators for 9 months and just let them set) and they were a stop gap when I left Jacksonville anyways. For a long time I’ve needed to rewire the complete boat but keep putting it off as it’s a huge project. But I’ve ordered an upgraded solar controller and good AGM batteries so need to get my wire projects done.

With this in mind I went through and inventoried all the parts I’ve bought and got my tools organized. I stole this idea from the group over at S/v Delos. I bought a tackle back with removable drawers. The top portion holds all my testers and tools.

The 4 major groups of parts that are frequently used.

Each drawer can be labeled on the front and top of the drawer, with divisions to divide all the parts within a group.

Sections break up the various sizes.
All the boats fuses in one location.

Now, it’s easy to just grab the tackle box whenever you have an electrical project to do, or even better if there is an emergency. No looking for those spare parts you put somewhere that you wouldn’t forget…

I have plans to use larger trays like this in a built in rack system for screw, bolts and nuts. These help keep everything organized and more important on a boat, dry. Things just corrode so fast in the humidity.
